Purchase seasonal plants or flowers.
The new owners of this house wanted to create a dramatic Fall color effect in their backyard using a flower bed that had not been used for years. They purchased colorful fall-blooming mums at their local garden center.

Till the soil and remove all the debris.
Using the Mantis Tiller we tilled the soil approximately 10 inches to thoroughly mix the soil and slice through all the tree roots that wondered into the flower bed. The Mantis Tiller did an excellent job with minimal effort!

Prepare the ground.
We raked off the layer of old mulch and pine needles. Our soil test indicated the soil pH was perfect so we elected not to till in the wood chips and needles. We removed some soil from the bed in order to make room for the new plants.

Arrange, plant, and water!
Before we actually planted our mums, we placed them near their final destination?starting at the center so we could space them evenly. We removed each plant from its pot and placed each in a hole that was about as deep as its container and about twice as wide. We filled backfilled each plant with soil. Everyone got into the fun! We watered the newly planted mums then sat down with a cold drink to admire the new flower bed.
